Lets talk GPS portable units
Ok I want to get one for my car when my wife is driving, also when we go out of town. Any suggestions? I saw alot of them ranging from about $200- $1000 I know there are cheaper ones but price isnt the issue as much as quality and usefulness.
I've been toying with getting a GPS system as well. Since I intend to use mine with a motorcycle as well, I'm leaning towards one of the Garmins that looks like a 2 way radio. Small screen, but fits a motorcycle jacket pocket well. Plus, given my nautical background I'm used to using GPSin conjunction with a paper chart (nautical term for "map") anyway.
My experience using an in-car systemis limited to factory-option nav systemin my mom's car in Japan. It is a wonderful tool.
I'd say get the one that has the biggest screen that's within your budget constraints. Real time traffic information is also a plus, although most of those invoke a monthly service charge.
