Default balljoint testing.. proper procedure?

hey all.. i just replaced my inner and outer tie rods, pitman arm, idler arm, both front shocks, and one upper balljoint which a suspension shop told me was shot.

its a 92 4runner thats running great despite being through hell.. my toyota import auto club is turning this beast into a club vehicle for use as a camera truck and promo vehicle.

im a newbie mechanic, somewhere around novice, but learning.. lots.

How do i properly test these upper and lower balljoints?

currently all i know to do is to get the truck on jacks, support the control arm and give the wheel a shake... like push and pull from the top and check for play.

the side with the new upper balljoint has zero movement, the other side has about 1cm of shake or less, doesnt feel loose though really..

however im not sure how to assess that information or how else to test these, or what im testing...

can someone help and tell me exactly what im supposed to do and what the results should mean?
