help with upper ball joints
Hello all!,
Okay so I have a 91 4runner 3.0L, 4x4. I ordered a front end kit from EBAY that included new ball joints upper and lower, new control and pitman arms and new inner and outer tie rods. My first problem was the size of the pitman arm nut on the steering box, luckily a quick search on here resolved that problem with a 32MM socket. LOL I called 3 toyota dealerships to get that socket size and all 3 had NO IDEA!!!!!! idiots!!!!. they told me 17MM.
So now im on to the ball joints, first off let me tell ya that i received the wrong ball joints from daparts_2009 on ebay.... thanks for the 3 day return jack ***. so $$150.00 later i have the rite joints. my question is about the upper ball joints, these are ball joints with pressed in studs. the upper A arm has a small pocket to accept the ball joint but the studs prevent the joint from coming out of the A arm and prevents the new on to go in. Are these studs supposed to be pressed out with a c-clamp or what not and then screwed back in once they are in place? if so why are they pressed in studs instead of nuts and bolts? i dont want to screw anything up here so any advice would help a great deal. thanks a ton guys~
