MY 2k 3.4l 4runner had starting problems, it will crank and start if continously depressing the gas peddle it would stay running and soon as you take you foot off the gas peddle engine dies, had this problem in the past about 6months ago had my car towed to the repair shop they could not duplicate the problem and car worked ok all this time, until this past week when i had the same problem again. a few weeks ago i had my timing belt replaced by the toyota dealer, and at that time they told me that my IAC valve was sticky, but was working ok. (car idling a little rough?), I remembered what they had said and looked up that this could cause this problem, So I purchase the Idle Air Control Valve (IAC) $300.00 from the genuine totoya part, and replaced it. very easy, that took care of the problem... Just wanted to share this to anyone that might be having the same problem.. however other things may cause the same problem too.
